Group Meeting: For Method Monday, I introduced Marble Painting to the children. At the art table, the children could choose to put a piece of paper in a box, add paint drops, and roll marbles over the paint. The design was unique for every paper.
Small Groups: The activities for this week are listed below as well as the schedule for today.
Activity #1 (Red Group) The children learned to play a simple board game. Taking turns, they rolled the dice and counted the squares. If the square that they landed on had a star on it, they could select a toy dinosaur to add to their pile. When the dinosaur container was empty, they counted how many that were in their pile. Whoever had the most dinosaurs was the winner for the day.
Activity #2 (Yellow Group) The children experimented with a ramp. They selected items to put on the ramp to see if it would roll. They recorded their results on paper by drawing the items.
Activity #3 (Green Group) The children listened to the story Giggle Giggle Quack by Doreen Cronin and answered questions about the story.
One of our group activities today was playing a board game. Simple board games are a great way to teach counting and taking turns. I strongly encourage parents to play board games with their children. If you have games like Candyland and/or Chutes and Ladders, those are a great start. However, sometimes even those games can be too long. I use simple board games that I can find on Pinterest. A game board and dice are pretty much all you need.
Story: The story for today was I'm Like You, You're like Me by Cindy Gainer. This book explores how we are alike and different. It tells about how we have to respect each other. I am using this book to kick of a "Bee Kind" initiative. In the classroom, we will be looking for children who are being kind. We will be recording acts of kindness on papers to share with classmates and take home to parents. Be looking for a Bee Kind report in your child's bag soon!
Large Group: The children have been asking to play some favorite games. Today was London Bridges.
Letter Learning: The morning class letter was Pp. The afternoon class letter was Tt.
Snacks: The morning class snack was Goldfish and milk brought by Malia S. The afternoon class snack was peanut butter, jelly, bread, bananas, and juice brought by Siler. Thank you, Malia and Siler!
